Hand Made Ceramics
I make wheel-thrown pieces in porcelain and stoneware which I decorate with slips, glazes and lustres. I like organic shapes with smooth curves and a tactile feel. These are fired at up to 1,280 centigrade in an electric kiln. I also produce smoke-fired Raku and Saggar pieces using a gas kiln.
Ceramics has been my hobby since 2004 and grew into a full time occupation in 2017 when I retired from my engineering career. Having a technical background has its uses, for example I make some of the surface decoration designs on a computer and a knowledge of chemistry has helped me to formulate my own glazes.
